Karen On featured in WordPress Theme Showcase!

As most of my regular readers know, Karen On has undergone an incredible redesign thanks to the availability of a snazzy new blog theme! I was wide awake when the stunning Nuntius theme was made available on WordPress—for free—and I thought ‘Christmas came early!’ Indeed, it did. I’ve been looking for a blog theme that could more prominently showcase my featured content, and I felt that Nuntius could do that for me, and it also did a lot more. I think I was one of the first blogs in the network to put it to use, but I was just at the right place at the right time (AKA not having a life).

In turn, Karen On received an incredible amount of traffic over the past couple of days since I made the theme switch, and I found that the root of it was due to WordPress featuring my blog under ‘Who’s Using This Theme?’ in the Theme Showcase page for Nuntius!

I am still so blown away by how many people have clicked! Thank you to anyone who bothered to check out my site, even if it was just to use as an example for designing their own blog. 😉 And HUGE thanks to WordPress for featuring me, for bringing this dream theme to the site, and for making it affordable, as well as to the awesome original designer Justin Tadlock. Much appreciation!

  1. Congratulations, Karen! I also found your blog via the Showcase link. For a long time I’ve been hoping for a free (i.e. non-Premium) magazine-style theme, and when Nuntius was launched, I was very keen to see what it would look like! I haven’t implemented it on my blog YET, because I know I’ll need to spend some time re-designing the different menus and categories and customising my header and featured images, etc., and don’t have spare time for that *right now*. But it does look like a fantastic and versatile theme!

    1. Hello Reggie! Thank you so much for stopping by and for commenting! I’ve been really impressed with all of the new themes WordPress has been offering lately but I didn’t have the funds to invest in one of the more magazine-type designs, so I totally feel your enthusiasm! It will be the most exciting thing when you’re finally able to use it. If you ever need pointers when the time comes to make the switch, feel free to let me know (Even though by the looks of your blog, you already definitely know how to make things look good and engage your audience! 🙂 ). Again, thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed your weekend!

    1. Hi there! Thanks for commenting.

To get the Featured Slider, you have to go “Pages”–>”Add New” in your Dashboard and select “News Template” from the Page Attributes module drop-down on your right side, then publish the page. And to make sure there is actually something in the Slide, make sure to “Sticky” the posts you want to feature and to set Featured Images in those posts.

Your sidebar looks okay – Was there anything specific you wanted to to do with it?

Feel free to let me know if you need more help! You can also check the page for the Nuntius theme in the Theme Showcase for more information. Good luck. 🙂

  3. Your post took the words right out of my mouth. I think I was one of the first to utilize the theme as well. My blog Pop Goes The City has been features also and it is great to be in such wonderful company. The feature made it possible for me to discover your blog!

    1. Hi Leslie! Congratulations on getting featured as well! I checked out your blog a little bit when I saw it on the Nuntius page and thought it was so cool. 🙂 Great job! Thanks for commenting and visiting! 🙂
