Wow, who knew that as we watched Sandra Bullock win her very first Oscar this year – and then witness her marriage crumble due to her husband’s infidelity – she was also raising a beautiful baby boy at home?
The 45-year-old Best Actress winner revealed in this week’s issue of People magazine that she adopted 3 1/2-month-old Louis Bardo from New Orleans in January after a process four years in the making. Bullock was inspired to adopt a child because of her husband Jesse James’ youngest daughter Sunny, who supposedly said to her, “There are so many little babies that have no home, and we can share our things with them.”
Bullock and James wanted to keep the adoption a secret till after the peak of awards season with the Oscars. Bullock explained, “I did not want him brought into a world that would not have been too sincere to him as I wanted. I wanted to be alone with him as long as I could, then we had to tell his story.”
Following reports of James’ highly-publicized multiple affairs just days after she won the Oscar for her leading role in The Blind Side, Bullock also revealed to People that she has filed divorce papers and will be finalizing the adoption as a single parent.
“I don’t know what else to say,” she said of the impending divorce. “I’m sad and I am scared.”
However, she also wishes for James to remain a part of Louis’ life.
“I really don’t know how our paths will intersect in the future, but the father I have known Jesse to be…is one that I hope Louis can experience one day, no matter how Jesse and I go on with our lives,” she admitted.
Divorce: Not surprising. But an adoption that happened in JANUARY? WTF-sicles! However, I have to agree that I think it was a good idea to keep it hush-hush during awards season. This might have been Hollywood’s best-kept secret so far this year! In all seriousness though, Baby Louis is definitely a bright spot in Sandra Bullock’s life right now and I hope mother and son share lots of love in the many years to come. Congratulations Sandra Bullock for moving forward with your life, and continued well-wishes on everything.
